July 9, 2011 Opening In Ashburn, VA!

Wings:  A Collaborative Public Arts Project

The Broadlands Nature Center is the very first venue for a life-sized ceramic sculpture created for the community by local artist, Rosalba Negrete.  Saturday, July 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, rain or shine, please attend the family friendly opening celebration at The Nature Center Pavillion!  There will be music, refreshments, art, children's activities, and more.

The sculpture is a figure with wings because as humans, we all strive to soar.  Applied to the wings and figure are descriptions of what art means to several local painters, writers, actors, musicians, potters, sculptors, weavers, photographers and dancers.  What emotion does this art evoke in YOU?  You will have from July 1 to November 1, 2011 to explore this question.  Then, the art will move on to its second venue our county.

Rosalba has dual citizenship in Spain and Chile, where public art is very prevalent.  She observes "Public art promotes social history and culture.  It fosters interactions between diverse groups of people.  Dialog that builds the cultural identity for the community motivates others to produce unique collaborative art.  This project is my gift to Loudoun County."
